Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you provide services to?

Therapy services are available online to all of Oregon statewide.

How long can I expect to see you?

It depends! Some clients feel a few sessions over the course of a couple months are enough, while others choose to continue seeing me long term (i.e. over 20 sessions). I also have clients who feel they’ve reached a good place overall, but still choose to check-in with me a few times a year, every few months, or for different concerns as they arise.

How often will I see you?

Most clients will typically start with weekly therapy sessions, then we’ll switch to biweekly or every 3-4 weeks as symptoms and functioning improve and progress is made. Others prefer to have more time between sessions to practice some of the things we talk about. The frequency of our sessions can be flexible and shift over time depending on what you feel you need or is helpful for you.

Why don’t you bill insurance?

Working as a private pay/out of network provider allows me to offer more individualized care without the need for me or my clients to jump through the insurance hoops that can create barriers to accessing mental health care. It allows me to see clients without needing to be in their insurance network and it allows my clients to maintain their privacy as related to their mental health care. Additionally, there are many times when individuals seek out therapy for concerns that may not meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis which would be required by an insurance company to cover treatment. My main goal is to make your access to services as simple as possible so you can get the care you’re looking for!

What is a superbill?

With Out of Network benefits, the full fee is charged after the session and then an invoice indicating the therapy services you’ve received and their associated costs (known as a "superbill"), is sent to you at the start of each month to give to your insurance for reimbursement. Your insurance, based on your out of network benefits, may then reimburse you for all or for a portion of the fee paid for the session.

If you’re interested in therapy with an out of network provider, I recommend asking your insurance carrier the following questions:

  1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for therapy?

  2. How much will I be reimbursed for out-of-network therapy services?
